Hot Platinum is a technology based company that was developed from an academic research partnership between the University of Cape Town (UCT), Cape Peninsula University of Technology and Mintek. Ali Brey (37), Managing Director and Irshad Khan (35), Technical Director, formed a consortium to commercialize the project and to develop the research into a commercial induction casting system solution. Ali and Irshad, who were part of the consortium, were able to secure R5.62 million in Innovation Fund funding for the initial product development period of 3 years in 2003.
